1/2 lb. ground beef

1/2 c onion, chopped

1 small bay leaf

1/4 tsp. thyme

1/2 c cubed potatoes

1/8 tsp. basil

1/2 c carrots, sliced

1-2 1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 c celery, chopped

1/8 tsp. pepper

1 pt. tomato juice

1/8 c rice or pasta, uncooked

3 c water

Brown beef and onion.  Add rest of the ingredients and

bring to boil.  Simmer until vegetables are done, about 45

minutes.  Yield: 4-6 servings
